Pedro Dimas and Dayanara Morales met while she was a waitress at a small, low-end diner. Although her hair was pinned up and she was wearing a stiff uniform, Pedro took a shining to her immediately. He would show up at the diner with hopes that she was working, and he'd always find something to chat with her about until Daya decided to put an end to her work distraction and gave him her phone number with the promise that he would let her spend more time serving her customers than engaging in conversation with him.
Despite their meet-cute, the relationship was short-lived and ended before their first, and only, child was born on July 23, 1993 in Miami, Florida. Raised almost exclusively by his mother, Marcos has a deep appreciation for her sacrifices she made to provide a home for them. His relationship with his father, a man who was never in the picture and rarely spent time with Marc, is strained at best. He believes his father is a selfish, unkind person and Marc's biggest fear is that he will become like him.
While Pedro had little interest in Daya and Marc, Daya wanted to make sure Marc was well-acquainted with his family and would always bring him to events hosted by Pedro's family and became one of the most respected and adored mothers of Pedro's children. She always remembered birthdays, sent cards when necessary and would happily drive Marc anywhere to see his siblings and cousins when she wasn't working. She has also encouraged Marc to strengthen his bond with Pedro but Marc continues to refuse.
